Citizen Alert:
Northeast Patrol Division recently had a 14% increase in Burglary of Motor Vehicle. Burglary of a Motor Vehicle (BMV) is a crime of opportunity and from a criminal’s viewpoint, it is easy shopping, especially if the vehicle is left unlocked. Criminals look for laptop computers, cell phones, GPS devices, purses or wallets as they scope vehicles parked in public streets, private driveways, or alleys. The basic crime fighting tool to preventing a BMV is to take everything out of your vehicle and to lock the vehicle. If you cannot take the items with you, HIDE them in the vehicle’s trunk BEFORE you park your vehicle.
